There was a theory that the bees existed on Earth from 200 millions years ago, this theory was supported by the discovery of old fossil remains which similar to bee nests. While this structrues were doubted by scientists as it may be not built by bees. In that there were no fossils of bees found. Besides, there were no flowers on which the bees feed 200 million years ago. Also, there were some lacking details of the remains if there were created by bees. However, the lecturer disproves the views mentioned above as follows.
Firstly, the absence of fossils of bees does not mean there was no bee 200 millon years ago. Because, probably, the bees could be be preserved at that time like other spicies. There was no certain fluid to preserve the bees as fossils. So maybe the bees could exist at that time.
Secondly, the bees may eat other plants instead of flowers. It is true that there were no flower 200 million years ago, while the primitive bees may live on plants like ferns or pine trees. After the emergence of flowers, the bees began to feed on them.
Thirdly. There is a supportive evidence that the nests were built by bees. Although there no caps in the remains which the modern nests have, the analyzation of the fossil of structres shows that that there is a kind of water-proofing material similar to the marterial produced by modern bees in the their nests to protect the comb against water.
In conclusion, the according to hte lecturer, the fossils of the structures is convincing to prove the exsitence of bees 200 million years ago.
