The speaker disputes the author suggest solution to create a fund that protect forests from being demolished. The lecturer provide several reasons to cast doubt about the real benefits of this fund.
First, according to the author providing funds to encourage agriculture would prevent companies from demolishing forest because farmers would stay to plant their lands. However, the lecturer find this idea debatable. He asserts that indeed this may not protect forests because farmers are continuously looking to increase their yield production through the use of fertilizers and pesticides which is also harmful to the environment.
Second, the lecturer contradicts the fallacy of the passage that providing funds to help people would reduce the destruction of forests. However, the lecturer argues that this may not help forest destruction. He asserts that the government is mostly the forest owners and not the people. Thus providing this fund would go not to the beneficiary, and as a result would not help to protect the forests.
Finally, the author claims the fund would protect forests because it may preserve the diversity of species living in this environment. However, the lecturer disputes this claim by stating that giving money would not protect diversity because farmers would be planting trees only which may not help in growing different type of agriculture.
