The chart below shows the percentage of the whole world population in four countries from 1950-2002, with projections to 2050.
The graph illustrates that what the proportions of population in four countries (India, China, USA and Japan) account for the gross world population at 1950, 2002, 2050, respectively.
The ratio of population in India shows an upward trend from 1950 to 2050. It started with 15% of the whole population at 1950, and jumped to just below 20% of the total number in 2002. Then, it is expected to climb to more than 20% slightly at 2050.
The other three countries all have a continuous decline at this period but with different speed. In China, there is the most dramatic decrease between 1950 and 2050. After becoming the most crowded countries at 1950 (just over 25%), the percentage of population drops to around 18% at 2050.
There is a different falling trend in USA which fell mildly from 10% to 8% between 1950 and 2002, more importantly, the projections predict the proportion of it will stay at 8% at 2050. Also, Japan share a similar with USA, the ratio of population always the smallest percentage of the whole population at the whole period.
