Overall, the use of natural gas and nuclear will increase considerably, however, the use of coal, oil and other will fall dramatically. In addition, renewables will face a small decrease.
In 2007, natural gas as a source of energy generation stood at 38.8% in Florida. Coal was not far behind, standing at 29.3%. Nuclear and other both accounted for just about a tenth of energy generation. Nevertheless, oil and renewables indicated a small proportion of energy generation in 2007: 6.7% of oil and 2.1% of renewables.
In contrast, it is predicted that natural gas will face a sharp increase by 2022. It will become 54.4%, which is more than a half of energy generation. In addition, nuclear will rise to 15.9% by 2022. However, oil and other will decrease considerably to 1.1% and 3.4% respectively. Coal will drop to just over a fifth of energy generation, when renewables will fall to only 1.5%.
