student's uniforms
The article is about the benefits of wearing uniforms in high school and it claims that it's an excellent means to reduce the stress of students, and provides three reasons for support. But the professor states that it's true that there are difficulties in high schools, but the uniforms aren't the solution and don't have the mentioned benefits in the passage and she refutes each of the author's reasons.
First, the article says that uniforms will help parents to save money. But the professor counters with this idea by saying that uniforms aren't free, and parents still have to buy it. Sometimes uniforms need to buy from specialty stores which result in higher prices. Also, kids won't wear uniforms when they go out with their friends or on the weekends. As result students still purchase the same amount of trendy clothes as they did before.
Second, the article states that wearing uniforms eliminate unnecessary distractions. On the other hand, the lecturer refutes this idea and believes that students use clothes to emphasize their attractive features and de-emphasize de-attractive features. So By using uniforms children will focus on how they look like in uniforms and how others think about them. This leads to an obsession in modifying uniforms.
Finally, the article asserts that uniforms build a sense of community between students. The professor casts doubt on this point by saying that students don't wear clothes just to fit in. They use clothes to represent their individuality. And by using uniforms we push them to conformity, and we kill their creativity. The professor explains that schools are to promote self-sense and creativity not to kill them.
