The supplied bar chart describes how the typology of accommodation changed in England and Wales in the period that went from 1918 to 2011. In general, the trend of owned accommodations is the opposite of that of rented accommodations.
First, the highest percentage of people living in rent was reached in 1918, when roughly 80% lived in a house without owning it. In the same year, the ratio of people living in a property house touched the nadir at 22%. Since then, the two percentages had opposite trends: the number of people living in their own home climbed up to almost 31% in 1939 and 1953, when the people in a rented accommodation exhibited a moderate decrease to 68%.
Next, the householder in owned housing experienced constant growth, reaching 40, 50 and 60 percent respectively in 1961,1971 and 1981, the converse for the householder in rented accommodation. In 1991 and 2001, the first kind of accommodation reached its maximum at 68 percentage, while the second kind reached its minimum at 32.
Eventually, in the period from 2001 to 2011, the trend had a slight change: people living in rent growth of 5 percentage points while people living in their own house had a decline of the same percentage.
