The line graph represents how many men and women completed their university education between 1992 and 2007.
Overall, women accounted for the majority of people who left university with a degree within this period. Moreover, the rate of growth for the number of female university graduates outstripped that of male university graduates.
For women, there was an upward trend in the number of university graduates. More specifically, from 1992 to 1994, an increasing number of women obtained a university degree, from less than 100 thousand to approximately 103 thousand people, but the period from 1994 to 1997 observed a slump to the mark of 100 thousand. Since 1997, however, a rise in the number of women graduating from university occurred, which resulted in an 50% increase to around 150 thousand graduates.
As for the number of male university graduates, there was also overall growth. Going into more detail, the first three years of the overall period saw a slight bump in the number of men completing a university degree, from 70 thousand to 73 thousand, but then the figures experienced a slight decrease until 1988, when 70 thousand men received a university degree. The next three years saw erratic change around mark of 71 thousand male university graduates in the figures, yet, from 2001 onwards, the number of male university graduates rose consistently, ultimately reaching about 95 thousand people by the end of the period.
