In 1940, Japan had only 5% elderly, this percentage reduced till 1990 to nearly 0, it is assumed that it will increase till 2020 to one in ten and then estimated to rise steeply till final year to 45%.
On the other hand, no much difference in percentage of senior citizen is observed in Sweden and USA. USA harbored highest percentage of elderly in 1940 with 10%, while, Sweden had just over 5%. Both countries showed similar rise in percentage till 2000; with exactly 10% in USA and nearly 10% in Sweden. From this point, population of elderly was almost constant in USA for four decades. However, that of Sweden continued to rise and expected to reach 25% by 2040. Although, percentage of elderly is estimated to rise by 2040 it will be least by over a fifth when compared to other countries.
