Based on given materials, the article as well as the lecture discusses possibility of establishing colonies of humans on the asteroids. The author states that cause three reasons, it would be a good plan rather than making colonies on the other planets. That being said, the lecturer provides several downsides to repudiate this claim.
Initially, the author says that low gravity is a reason to the extend that making the landing of spaceship safer than landing on the Moon or Mars. However, the lecturer explains that low gravity brings some side effects. More especially, it presents certain risks such as losing muscles and bone density becomes lower. To wrap it up, humans suffer problems more than getting benefits.
Second, the writer proclaims that most of the asteroids are rich in valuable elements and precious metals. Yet again, the speaker underscores that by explanation of additional factors. In other words, mining and transportation costs reduce benefit. Beside of that, there is no guarantee that the metals have a constant prices since by entering new metals to market, the prices of metals would be reduce based on economic's theories.
The final point of contention between reading and listening passages is reaching to asteroids. The author thinks the asteroids are easy to reach, thus they will be a good option to colonize. On the other hand, the speaker explains that it is not a good idea because couple of reasons. First, whatever, they are easy to reach, but there is not easy to get back from them. Furthermore, the asteroids have unusual orbit spaces to the extend that there are unable to forecast for colonization.
