summarize the points made in the lecture ,being sure to explain how they cast a doubt on the specific theories in the reading passage.
Franchise VS Independent Business
The lecturer challenges the topic proposed in the reading that the franchising company receives a percent of the sales. And she presumes that recently a study calls these benefits into questions.
First, the passage indicates that buying a franchise could avoid choosing the wrong supplier. However, the professor points out that the contract forces owner to buy some specific services which is overpriced. even if there are some services on the market whose price is equivalent with itself, owners are not allowed to buy them.
Second, the essay suggests that a franchise can save a new business a lot of money on advertising. But the lecturer argues that the company need to pay six percent of total in sales on advertising which is quite considerable. And the company would advertise their brands and products rather than franchise's product. So the individual company would receive little benefits even half less than the money used directly on advertising franchise's products.
Third, the article supposes that a franchise offers more security than starting an independent business. Nevertheless, the professor supports that it is not the most secure option. A third plan that is buying an already independent business from owners is the most secure choice. Plus, it would have twice chances for first four years as franchise businesses.
