The passage and lecture discusses about the methods to prevent the decline in frog populations in recent years. The author states three main ways to solve this problem. The speaker casts doubts on these views raised in the passage.

Firstly, the reading claims that pesticides that are used to grow crop plants are detrimental to the frog population as it would affect their nervous system. Hence, stopping the use of pesticides can prevent this situation. The speaker challenges this statement. He explains that lack of pesticides will severely affect the crop production and those farmers will be particularly affected by it.

Secondly, proper administration of antifungal treatment for fungal growth on the frog skin, that causes dehydration and eventually its death can increase the frog population. The lecturer rebuts this by elaborating that it is not economical and practical to administer the treatment to each and every single frog. Moreover, the spread of disease from one frog to another is impossible to control.

Thirdly, the destruction of wetlands, being the natural frog habitats for reproduction by the human invasion has caused a reduction in frog breeding grounds. Therefore, according to the passage steps to preserve the natural wetlands and marsh area can help solve the problem. This viewpoint is also refuted by the speaker. He explains that the global warming is the reason for the loss of several natural habitats of animal species rather than any human intervention.
