The graph below illustrate the development of a Village called Chorleywood in the period of 1868 and 1964.
It’s clearly shown that the transportation system has been improved a lot, adding railway and motorway besides main roads. What’s more, the area of Chorleywood witnessed a significant extension from 1868 to 1994, which can be divided into four periods of development. Each of the populated areas are next to the main roads, the railway or motorway.
In 1968, the town of Chorleywood just occupied a small region on the west of Chorleywood Park and Golf course with two main roads. After 1883, the region expands to the south alongside one main road. The railway was finished in 1909, crossing the area from east to east. Another two areas developed along the railway and Chorleywood Station was located in the village.
In 1970, a new motorway was constructed in the east of the original village, and there are two intersections between motorway and one of main roads. The further development happened around the intersections after that.
