The given line graph shows average carbon dioxide emissions per person in metric tonnes in four European countries namely United Kingdom, Sweden, Italy and Portugal for each decade between 1967 and 2007. It is a clear and cohesive representation.
The countries of Sweden and the United Kingdom witnessed an overall positive trend with a significant drop in their carbon emissions. While UK experienced a gradual parabolic decrease over these decades, carbon emissions in Sweden, though less than the UK’s, first rose up slightly between 1967-77 and then falling sharply to an all time low by 2007.
On the other hand, Italy and Portugal added up to their overall average emissions throughout these years. Both the countries show a linear increase with a similar slope in their emission levels, which remain higher for Sweden throughout.
Overall it can be observed that while the developed countries have tried to control their carbon footprint around the world, the developing are yet to take action to control let alone reverse the emission levels.
