Whistler's painting.

Essay topics:

Whistler's painting.

The reading and lecture are both about Whistler's painting. Whereas reading states some point to support to painting is Whistler's. But challenges the reading points.

First, according to reading, Whistler's friend collect his painting after Whistler and which is shown in exhibition. In contrast, lecturer refute this point that there is no firm evidence of paint is of Whistler's. Furthermore, his friend have put it in exhibition, its not mean that this painting of Whistler. This may have put it in exhibition because of his friend own it.

Second, reading states that woman in painting resembles the woman in "Symphony in White", therefore this painting belongs to Whistler. However, lecturer states that, there may have been many painters who made this painting. The use of black grey colors does not mean that this painting is made by Whistler.

Third, reading again states that, Whistler always paint butterfly on one of corner in painting which was his sign. In this presented painting, there is butterfly so this painting belongs to Whistler. But in contrast, lecturer states that, this is not convincing evidence. The butterfly is on right bottom corner, Whistler may ave paint it on upper right corner. Furthermore, this may have been painted many years after Whistler's death to show that this painting is of Whistler.

In conclusion, although the reading and listening are about painting, the point of reading are effectively challenged by listening.
