TPO 30 integrated essay
The reading and the lecture are both about the "burning mirror". The auther says when the Roman navy attacked the greeks, they defended themselves with a particular weapon called " burning mirror", which was ingenious but the auther thinks that it doesn't true. The lecturer challenged this claim. she states they built that practical weapon.
First of all, the auther believes that the greeks weren't technologicall to can reach this achievement. The article mentions that it had to be wild as enough as it can set ships on fire. Moreover, it had to have parabolic curvature. The lecturer argues with this hypothesis. she points out that they knew what are its properties to make this device.
Secondly, the article states that it takes long time to set fires on fire. The lecturer ignores the claim made by the auther. she adds the weapon didn't include woods alone. they also had a special material between woods called pich which could set on fire in second and that makes the weapon setting on fire quickly enough.
Third, the writer thinks that the burning mirror wasen't an improvement on weapon because the greeks had a way which was useful like a burning mirror, therefore, the greeks didn't have any reason to make it. The lecturer opposits it. she says it was more effective that other ways because when they used it, enemy couldn't see raising the mirror they can just see the mirror that's why it's much more effective.
