The possibility of maintaining a permanent human residency on Venus' surface is discussed by both the passage and the lecture. In the passage there are three reasons mentioned for the impossibility of living on Venus' surface, on the contrary, the lecturer refute all the reasons and asserts that it is possible to live on Venus' surface.
First reason, which is mentioned by the passage, relates to the fact that atmospheric pressure at Venus' surface is so high that it crushes every landing object. However, the lecturer suggests that by building a station locating 50 kilometers in the atmosphere, where there is less atmospheric pressure, they can overcome this issue.
Secondly, the absence of water and oxygen is mentioned by the passage as a reason for inhospitablity of Venus' surface and how difficult transferring these elements, from the earth to the Venus, is. Lecturer, on the other hand, disagrees and believes that since the primary components of these necessary elements are available in the Venus, they can produce them without any problem.
Finally, the issue of limited sunlight reaching the surface of Venus in stated by the passage and also the fact that residents cannot produce electricity due to this issue is also mentioned. However, the lecturer suggest that this problem can be addressed by building the station 50 kilometers in the atmosphere where there are plenty of sunlight available.
