Question :Lectures were used as a main method of teaching for the greater number of students in the past. With the existing technology, there is no longer any justification for that method.
To what extent do you agree or disagree
With the advent of technology, there seems to be a shift in the method of teaching from the traditional classroom teacher to technologically inclined form of learning. While technological advances may have greatly improve learning, I do not agree that the conventional type of lecturing is no longer needed.
Firstly, with the aid of a class teacher, students level of assimilation is increased. In other words, face -to- face teaching gives the learners an avenue to understand what was taught by interacting with the lecturer, getting clarifications on difficult topics and even asking questions at the end of each lecture. For example, many first class graduates are those who engaged their lecturer in class for more detailed explanations, as a result, their level of understanding is enhanced.
Secondly, the role of a classroom tutor is vital in practical teachings. Students are guided by their teachers to have a hands-on experience which is very imperative for overall performance of the pupils. Medical students are good example. They are often time led by their teachers to have a first hand experience by putting them true on how to use the microscope to visualise organs of the body.
Admittedly, advancement in technology may have improved learning method by providing students with a lot of information online by simply surfing the internet. However, Learners will still need a classroom instructor guidance for them to have proper understanding of the topic and also during practical classes.
In conclusion, even though technological advances has tremendously enhanced method of learning by providing learners with information, I also believe that the importance of a classroom instructor should not be neglected as practically improve the learners.
