Some people think that universities should provide graduates with the knowledge and skills needed in the workplace. Others think that the true function of a university should be to give access to knowledge for its own sake, regardless of whether the course is useful to an employer.
What, in your opinion, should be the main function of a university?
It is obvious that when the university tries to rear several persons who are useful for their societies, it can reach to its goal that is to access to knowledge for its own sake.when the university provides students with golden opportunity to gain decent skills that are needed in the workplace little by little it can receive positive feedback from graduates who had used these knowledge.
It is clear that people who can use these skills in their workplace can be able to create a decent relationship among science and industry and gain new knowledge which not only are beneficial for them and they can make good profit by these practical knowledge but also access to new experiences that can educate in the universities.
Moreover, when universities offer certain courses which are useful to gain skills that are important in the workplace and after graduation people can use them in their job to get success, people who are taught these skills try to use their knowledge that gained trough universities and combine science and industry to gain new knowledge which would never happen if universities did not want to offer certain course related to industry.
On the other hand, it is undeniable that when universities provide graduates with the knowledge and skills needed in the workplace, little by little they can not rear students who want to continue education in the higher level of academic degree because they do not learn some special knowledge that are important for societies while they are useless knowledge needed in the workplace such as basic science. Therefore, it can be seen that universities should be give access to knowledge for its own sake in special science like basic science.
In conclusion, I think that both of offering certain courses that is useful for graduate to use in the workplace and accessing to knowledge for universities own sake are important and universities must make balance between courses that are offered. It is mutual deal that graduates and universities can reap the benefits of it.
