The pie charts depict the information about the proportion of food budget spent by average family on restaurant cuisines over past decades from 1970-2000. The line graph illustrates the trend in figures of meals consumed in junk food and sit-down restaurants over the period.
Overall, the number of meals consumed in junk food restaurants witnessed a drastic growth, whereas, the proportion of home cooking reduced over the years.
In the year 1970, the home-made cuisines accounted for the majority proportion where the money spent on restaurant meals was just 10% of the total. But with the passage of time, the proportion of home cooking experienced gradual drop and reduced to half of the total consumption on meals with an equivalent restaurant meal budget proportion in 2000.
Furthermore, the meals consumed in fast food and sit-down restaurants were observed to be equal in 1970. Forth then, both witnessed an increment in the figures. While fast food meals grew significantly, the sit-down restaurant meals trended steadily. By the year 2000, junk food achieved the mark of 90 meals per year, whereas, sit-down meals were low at around 50 meals per year.
