TPO 7: Ecocertification for wood companies
The reading specifies that American wood companies will not use ecologicaly friendly particle for acquiring ecocertification. However, the professor cats doubt on it and explains that companies eventually will use this method since there are good reasons in applying it.
First, based on the reading, since American consumers are exposed to so much advertising, they do not trust advertising claim such as ecocertification label. Nevertheless, the professor explains that Amercian do not treat all advertisments the same. He believes that American consumers distinguish the independent organization which give certification. Therefore, consumers are confident in these organization with certification.
Second, according to the reading, ecocertified wood are more expensive than uncertified wood. Because of that, consumers become more inclined toward uncertified wood since it is cheaper. In contrast, the speaker states that people do not pay attention to the price value when its difference is low like wood that have certification. Hence, people pay attention to other factors like benefits on the environment which certified wood have it.
Third, the lecturer asserts that American wood companes sell most of their products in the United States. American companies do not need certifciation since they do not sell their products abroad. On the contrary, the author says that American wood companies are in a competition with foreign countries which make it curcial for them to own ecocertification. If they do not get certification, foregin countries will acquire the American market which has negative effects on wood companies.
