TPO-43

The professor explaines the weaknesses of each theory stated in the text about how agnostides may have lived. She belives each of the theory has serious weaknesses.
First, about the theory of swimming predetor and hunting smaller organisms which was suggested in the text, professor refutes the idea. She states that for being a swimmer predetor an animal should have large eyes and very good vision sight. this makes the finding prey possible. However, in phosil finding of agnostide, there are evidence that these animals were blind or had very poorly developed eyesight. Also, for chasing animal needs a sensory organ which was not evident in the fossile findings. Therefore, the posibility of the theory is not possible.
Also, the text suggest the theory of seafloor dwelling but the professor refutes with that. She states that seafloor dweller do not move fast and do not go far. They usually localized in small areas and occupying small geographic area. However, from fossil findings agnostides were living in multiple location and spread in large areas which needs the ability to move fast. Therefore, the possibility of the second theory would be into question.
Third, reading brings the theory of parasite as some arthropode like fleas and mites live in this way. the professor disagrees with this idea by saying that parasites usually can not live in large population as they would kill off the organism. There are enough evidence that very large population of agnostides were living together and vast amount of them rule out the possibility of accepting the theory of parasite living of them.
