You moved to a new country and you want to write a letter to your former colleague.
In your letter, you should:
tell him/her where did you go and what you are doing there (job)
describe your feeling
invite your friend to come.
Dear Rahul,
Hope you are doing good. I have been thinking of writing to you for a long time, but lately I was caught up with some paper works. I am sorry that I didn't mention this to you prior, I have moved to Canada. I was not sure how the whole things would turn out, so I didn't mention this to anyone and you are the first person I am writing about this.
Even though I have got a PR here, I have not decided on the work stream to follow precisely. But currently I am having a part time job, which pretty much take care of my expenses over here. I am going through the different opportunities here and hopefully will sought out one soon. These days, I miss our hometown very badly, I miss the days we spend together in the beach talking for hours, planning on the silly things. Thinking about that, those are the moments that I will never forget. Although, I feel a bit of homesick over here, I am glad that I took the initiative to come here.
Thinking further on that, it would be great if you can plan a visit to here, let make it a vacation trip for you. Anyway I would need more time to settle over here. So I would suggest you to plan your next summer vacation to be with me over here in Canada. There are lots of thing that need to explored here and I am looking for a good partner, who better that you can fill that spot. So I hope you will be able to make it here in the coming summar vacation. Do write me about the things going on there, waiting to hear from you.
Yours lovingly
Akash A
