The bar chart compares the changes in the amount of carbon dioxide emission from four different vehicles and the line graph illustrates the number of vehicles from 2000 to 2020 in England and Wales.
Overall, three types of vehicles witnessed a remarkable growth, while the figures for bus remained relatively unchanged throughout the years. There was a gradual increase in number of vehicles from 2000 to 2015 and it is expected to keep rising until 2020.
Cars contributed the most significant emissions over the period shown and it stood at 20 tons in 2000, while the figure for buses was just below a half as high as that of car, around 8 tons. Around 13 and 15 tons of emissions were reported for trucks and vans respectively.
By 2020, the figure for cars is expected to increase over 25 tons, while buses will continue to be the lowest share among four, at 8 tons. Both trucks and vans are forecast to produce more emissions at around 23 and 15 tons respectively. 2000 saw just around 20 million number of vehicles. However, it rose significantly over the timescale and is expected to peak at approximately 55 million by 2020.
