TPO-54

In the reading 3 solusions for reservation of Salton Sea was recommended. In the lecture, the speaker refutes all the solusions provided in the reading and called them unrealistic and non-practical.
First, the lecturer agrees that the desalination facilities might reduce the amount of saline in the lake. However, the remnant of desalination process would left behind in the soil and would cause serious health issues for people. the remnant includes salt and other materials like selenium which could be move by wind. If people breath them it would cause serious health issues. Therefore, the desalination facilities do not work.
Also, diluting the salt level by ocean' water which was proposed by text might reduce the salt but it needs a lot of pumpline which might not be funded by government. Installation of pumpline from ocean to lake might need 100 or more kilometers pump installation which is very expensive and government might not pay for such massive and expensive construction. So, this solusion is non-practical.
Lastly, as the reading claims providing devision by constructing wall and making several salinity level section might work for short-term but can not provide long-term solusion. Geological activities like earthquack happens in that area and walls might collapse and water would mix with other part as a result. Therefore, building the wall can not remove the issue or solve problem for long-run.
