The lecture and reading passage discuss about the Little Ice Age and its causes which happened in 1350-1900 C.E. with harsh winter and large glaciers. The reading passage holds forth three reasons for the occurrence of the Little Ice Age, however, in the lecture; professor rejects those three reasons mentioned in the passage.
First, according the reading passage, the ocean currents are one reason of disturbing the climate at that time, as the large amount of fresh water melted by glacier also had great effect on temporality of Gulfstream. On the other hand, professor states Gulf Stream had influence just on north of America since the southern regions like Africa still are col rafte r,that isn't enough to make cold those vast areas all southern and northern.
Second, based on the reading passage, volcanic eruption is one of the reason for creating that period of time as the dust and dark clouds after eruption could block the sun shine and decrease the temperature as well. While, the professor describes that eruption's influence on cooling of climate wasn't enough and he adds, in that case, visual effects should have been happened because of lack of the colorful shines. While, there was no any evidence for locking sun and subsequent outcome.
Finally, the reading passage mentions that decrease of population is another cause posed the Little Ice Age since it caused forests to be intact and virgin which means more absorption of Carbon Dioxide and diminution greenhouse effect, in subsequent. On the other hand, professor rejects this reason by explaining that supposition explained in the passage wasn't possible at the time. He states that occurring something like that needs too long time to influence on climate and Carbon Dioxide effect lasts too many years while the Ice Age happened soon. Likewise, cutting forests require much time to make the climate cold.
