do you agree or disagree that grades help students to work harder
No one can deny that grades could be considered as a purposeful addition to the learning system. In my view, I agree with the idea that marks could help students for better achievement through their learning journey. I feel this way for two reasons, which I will explore in the following article.
First of all, grades could encourage students to work harder because they either need to keep their high level of grades or improve it. For example, I can use my personal experience to explain this idea. In 2003, I was a student in the last year of high school. I remember that it was the year of the war in Iraq, and there were no schools for a while because of the terrible situation at that time. I kept on my study even with the sound of bombs because I used to be one of the special students in my school and all of my teachers rely on me to achieve good grades and attend a good college. Therefore, as I mentioned before, I worked seriously hard and I achieved good grades which allowed me to attend a dentistry college in Baghdad university (which could be considered as one of the most prestigious universities in Iraq).
Second, in countries with the advanced education system, they appreciate student’s effort by offering them scholarships or financial supports in addition to specific learning ways to increase their chances of attending unique colleges. For instance, when I arrived in the United State in 2014, my son was 7 years old and he had to join the school as a first-grader student. After 3-4 months of the school year, I received a letter from his teacher stated that my son has something special and he was eligible to attend the gifted and talented program (which is a special program with a high level of intensity in learning curriculums and projects). These kinds of programs are offering students multiple aspects of support to create an achiever figure to the country and community as well.
In conclusion, I agree that grades are a reasonable addition to the educational protocol for two reasons. First, grads help educators to work harder and achieve better results. Second, high grads can offer students alternative ways to achieve their dreams.
