The data source provides information on the population of four different countries (India, China, the USA and, Japan) in 1950 and 2003 and an estimation of their respective level of the population around 2050.
Overall, it is evident that in terms of population, throughout the three different periods shown, China is the dominant force, followed by India, the USA, and Japan respectively.
As can be seen from the graph, China is at its peak in 1950. In 2002 its population started dropping and in 2050 the ratio of the total world population in China will have plummeted to 15%. Similarly, Japan's trend is at its highest during the first time period and, soon after that, it decreased marginally in 2002 and, will have bottomed at nearly 2% in 2050.
In contrast, India followed an entirely different trajectory. India's population was initially at 15%, and in 2002 it increased to almost 18%. By the end of 2050, it is estimated to have rocketed at around 18%.
Finally, the ratio of people living in the USA has decreased slightly in 2002 to 5%, where it is expected to remain plateaued for the remaining 48 years until 2050.
