In this set of materials, both reading and listening part discus about advantages and disadvantages of the salvage logging. Although the passage defines this activity as decent idea that has a lots of economy and environmental beneficial; however, the lecturer casts the doubts by providing some ideas, which contradicts with the passage`s reasons.

First of all, in the passage, the dead trees after a fire is defined as negative aspect of the forest that cramped the spaces and prevent the growth of the new trees; so, gathering these trees provide appropriate room for new trees. In contrast, the lecturer find these trees as a nutrition for soil that improve soil`s quality and make it suitable to raise new trees.

Second, as it mentions in the lecture, another demerits of these dead trees layouts as there are the hostile for some specific insect named spruce bark beetle that is consider as a danger factor for the environment; however, the listening part mentions to the Alaska forest that habitat for this insect for a long period, and there is no any important and negative affect in the forest; in addition, these trees are a suitable place for birds and other kind of the insects that are important at ecosystem.

Finally, the lecture supports from this activity, because it has an economic benefits, like more demand for labors or industries that are depend on these trees. On the other hand, the professor does not find this benefit as big economic advantages and moreover, the job which provide by salvage logging is temporary that cannot consider it as fix and stable income source for labors.
