The article states that salvage logging is the best way to benefit from damaged trees, and provides three reasons for support. however, the professor says that although it seems a good idea it has serious long term disadvantages economically and naturally, and refutes each of author's reasons.

First, the passage explains that by removing damaged trees it will provides a good environment to grow new ones. The professor refutes this point by saying that by doing this soil wont benefit from nutrition provide from decaying trees, in addition, the removal of trees not necessary treat the soil.

Second, the article explains that insect will increase and attract to the decaying tree so by get rid of them these harmful insect vanish. The professor refutes this reason by explaining that not all of insect is harmful, for example, birds and beneficial insect will be attracted also, furthermore one of insect has been stydied for long period and scintest discover that it has no effect on growing of trees.

Third, the reading claims that this process is economically advantageous by providing wood for industrial use and offering new jobs. however, the professor says that for doing that they need alot of money spend for transfer and recovery of trees, moreover, jobs will be gone to expert people who are not from the city.

In conclusion, although the reading and the lecture are about salvage logging, the points made by the reading are effectively challenged by the lecturer.
