endothermy of dinosaurs
The reading and the lecture are both about Whether the dinosaur is an endotherms animal or not. It means that if the animal's body temperature is constant. The author of the article feels that dinosaurs are endotherms, and they provide three theories about it. The lecture, however, disputes the claim made in writing. Her position is that dinosaurs were not endotherm creatures.
According to the reading, there were fossils of dinosaurs in cold places such that only an endotherm animal could live. This specific argument is challenged by the lecture. She claims that at the time dinosaurs lived; those places weren't as cold as now, specially in the warm seasons. Additionally, she points out that dinosaurs could have easily migrated in the cold seasons, or they could have hibernated, as some of the polar animals do now.
Secondly, that author suggests that there is a connection between physical activity and endothermy. For the animal to have a high physical activity such as running, its legs are more likely to be underneath it. In the article, it is said that the dinosaur legs are underneath it, so this indicates that dinosaurs were endotherms. The lecture, however, asserts that underneath legs don't only mean the animal had a high energy level; it also supports the idea of it having more weight and, therefore, being able to be larger.
Finally, the author posits that the bone structure sometimes tells us if an animal is an endotherm or not. They contend that there are Haversian canals in some of the animal's bones that blood vessels and nerves go through. Endotherm animals are more likely to have them. In contrast, the lecture stance is in the study of dinosaur's bones, we see growth rings, which indicates that the animal wasn't growing rapidly. Its growth was probably rapid growth and then no growth and then again, rapid growth. However, endotherm growth is always rapid. This is another indication that dinosaurs were not endotherm animals.
