By March 1996, the unemployment rate increase in America as the percentage of workforce fell gradually reaching 5.5%. By contrast in Japan the figure for workforce rose steadily becoming above 4%.
The percentage of workforce in America fall over next three years reaching 5% in March 1999. There was an overall fall of 2% in the US workforce over this period of six years.
On the other hand, the proportion of japanese workforce rose over to 5% in March 1998. The figure plateaued between march 1998 and March 1999. There was an overall rise of 2.5% in March.
It is interesting to note that both the US and Japan had 5% of workforce by the end of the period shown .

In 2008, the unemployment rate remained constant in the United States and increased in Japan which was 4.48. In 2009, the unemployment rate has decreased in the United States to 5.2 and increased in Japan to 4.9. In 2010, the unemployment rate of both countries were 4.9 and 4.5 respectively. In 2011, the unemployment rate of both countries were equal which was 5.
From the facts stated above, we can see that the highest rate of unemployment of the United States was 7 in 2005 and lowest was 5 in 2011. We also see that Japan’s lowest unemployment rate was 2.5 in 2005 and the highest was in 2011 which was 5. It can also be said that the unemployment rate of the United States is decreasing while Japan’s is increasing.
