Sales of Fairtrade-labelled coffee and bananas (1999 & 2004)
The tables contain sales records of coffee and banana labelled under Fairtrade in five European countries between year 1999 and 2004. Earnings are in millions of euros.
Overall, sales of both products undergo tremendous growth throughout the year except Sweden and Denmark, which suffered a minor loss in banana sales. Switzerland stood at the top in the list of banana trade for both years whereas for coffee Switzerland was overtaken by UK at the end with enormous difference.
Once Switzerland was at the top for coffee trade with earnings of 3 million euros which got almost doubled after 5 years but UK surpassed it in 2004 with a rise in income from 1.5 in beginning to 20 million euros in 2004. Sales report of Denmark, Belgium and Sweden remained under 2 million euros.
Banana sales table depicts Switzerland was the ruler in both years with earnings of 15 and 47 million in 1999 and 2004 respectively. UK with sales figure 5.5 million in 2004 stood at second while Belgium with figure of 0.6 and 4 million euros in 1999 and 2004 respectively was at third in the list. In contrast with others sales of Sweden and Denmark decreased over time and stood under 2 million.
