The charts below show the percentage of water used for different purposes in six areas of the world.
Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The following pie charts provide information about the amount of water which is consumed by three sections of Industry, agriculture and households in six distinctive areas of the globe.
As can be clearly observed from the graphs, the percentage of water consumption can be divided into two groups based on agricultural use. North America and Europe are placed in the first group. Unlike Europe which the majority of its water is consumed by Industries, about 53%, the distribution of water use in North America is not sharply biased regarding Industry and domestic use 48% versus 39%.
By contrast, the largest proportion of water consumption in the second group which includes Africa, Central Asia, South East Asia, and South America belongs to agriculture, 84%, 88%, 81%, and 71%, respectively. Notwithstanding the fact that the domestic use in South America by 19% has the highest percentage amongst all other areas, households are responsible of using about 7% of water in both Central Asia and South East Asia, and around 9% in Africa.
It is clear from the graphs that developed regions’ industries consume the most share of water while agriculture devour the majority of water resources in other developing areas.
