The global water use for agriculture increased dramatically between 1900-2000. Moreover the 600% growth was observed, when agriculture water consumption reached 3000 km3 in 2000. Industrial as well as domestic water use remained at relative the same level (100 km3) during the first 45 years, while the second part of century was marked by the rise in water consumption, however industrial use changed more significantly and reached 1200 km3, while domestic water use improved slightly (500 km3 in 2000).

Water consumption per person in Brazil, which population is counted by 176 million of people and irrigated land contain 26,5 thousand km2, is around 360 m3. On the contrary, 1 person in the Democratic Republic of Congo consumes 8 m3 in mean, by the way population of this country is equal 2.5 million of people and irrigated land is assessed by 100 km2.

Overall, water consumption in total increased worldwide during the 20th century, although in Congo consumption is very small in comparison to Brazil.
