More and more people are opting for ready-made food instead of home-made food.
Do you think this option has MORE advantages or disadvantages?
In recent years, it has been a common phenomenon that people are choosing packaged meals rather than home-cooked meals. In my opinion, there are more drawbacks than benefits of this trend.
On the one hand, this situation can bring certain benefits. To begin with, ready-to-eat food is considered time-saving compared to cooking at home which often includes certain steps such as selecting ingredients, processing and cleaning up. Therefore, this type of food is generally the first priority for those with overwhelming work schedules. Another point is that there is a diversity of food options. Food producers have a tendency to offer customers a wide range of dishes not only to compete with each other but also to meet customer demands.
On the other hand, I believe that there are a number of downsides of prepared food. Firstly, buying packaged food seems to be costlier because fast food restaurants or other food stores have to increase the prices of food to pay for business expenses, namely staff salary, premises, tax and also advertising fees. In addition, customers may be at risk of food poisoning. Specifically, food manufacturers might use low quality ingredients due to the purpose of making profits. Therefore, ready-to-consume food will not probably meet the requirements of food safety and hygiene. Another point worth mentioning is that depending on processed food on a regular basis may have a negative influence on young people’s way of life, which means that they will gradually lead a sedentary lifestyle and loose traditional cooking skills.
In conclusion, from the reasons mentioned above, it is still my belief that the disadvantages of choosing ready-made dishes outweigh the advantages.
