The bar chart shows the percentage of the total world population in four countries in 1950 and 2003, and projections for 2050.
The bar chart gives information about changes in the populations of India, China, the USA and Japan during the period from 1950 to 2050.
Overall, there are general downward trends in the percentages of the population of China, the USA and Japan. Meanwhile, the figure for India experiences a reverse pattern. It is also clear that India and China are the two countries with the highest population compared to the others.
Starting at 15% in 1950, it is predicted that the population of India will increase continually to reach its highest point of around 18% in 2050.
In comparison, Chinese people accounted for nearly 23% of the total population, followed by roughly 7% of Americans and just under 5% of Japanese in 1950. Afterward, the proportions of Chinese and Japanese population is projected to fall significantly to 15% and around 1% respectively. Over the same period, there was a marked drop to 5% in the United States in 2002. Then, the forecast is that the figure will remain until 2050.
