The diagrams below show the life cycle of a species of large fish called the salmon. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The diagrams depict the stages of development that salmons have to undergo to become an adult one.
Overall, it can be seen that there are three main physical stages of different forms, and each of them is in a separate aquatic area too.
Firstly, salmons begin their lifespan as eggs lying on small stones in the upper river. After approximately 5-6 months, these eggs hatch into fries which are about 3-8 centimeters in length. These small fish live in the lower river where water is fast-flowing for about 4 years, then step into the next stage: smolts. They are average-size fish whose length varies from 12 to 15 centimeters, and they move to inhabit the open sea. After spending roughly 5 months there, again, these fish change their habitats into the slow-moving, upper river as they grow into adult salmon and reach maximum size, about 70-76 centimeters long. Finally, they lay eggs in their birthplace, and the life cycle is now complete as newborn salmons from these eggs with start the process again.
