The bar chart below shows the percentage of Australian men and women in different age groups who did regular physical activity in 2010. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The bar chart illustrates data about the proportion of males and females in Australia who exercised regularly in 2010.
Overall, it can be seen that women generally took part in physical activity more than men did. While males had the highest participation in the 15 to 24 age group, the highest figure for females was recorded among those who were aged 45 to 54.
In the first age group, 52.8 percent of males took up physical activity, and this was 5.1 percent higher than females. However, this figure fell to 39.5 percent in the 35 to 44 age group, while the percentage of women saw an increase of over 10 percent.
If we look at the older age groups, apparently more females exercised on a regular basis. Among people who were 45 to 54 years old, only 43.1 percent of men took part in physical activity, while the proportion of women was the highest, at 53.3. As they grew older, the former slightly increased by 2 percent, to 45.1 percent, while the proportion of the latter saw a marginal decline. A striking feature is that in the 65 and over age group, men and women who were regularly engaged in physical activity accounted for almost equal proportions.
