The chart presents data on accommodation of British people aged 25 to 34 from 2004 to 2014. Overall, the proportion of people owning a house dwindle over the period while the opposite is true for renters.
Peaking at about 59% in the beginning of the period, the percentage of home owners decreased marginally through the years to about 56% in 2006. The year 2007 witnessed the slight recover with roughly 57% people aged 25 to 34 possessing a house. However, from 2007 on, the ratio of home owners declined gradually and reached the lowest point at the end of that period with only 36%.
In 2004, the divergence between home owners and renters was the largest. The gap shrank as the proportion of renters began to rise. From only 20% in 2004, the figure climbed up steadily and ended at well under 50% in 2014. It is worth noticing that the percentage of home owners and renters was the same in 2011 and 2012 and 2013 marked the point when renters outnumbered home owners.
