TPO60 integrated writing
In the reading and listening passages, the writer believes that rhinos can be protected. Providing three methods which are contradicted by the following lecture.
Firstly, let the wildlife expert ‘dehorn’ rhinos living in the wild, making it less attractive to poachers, while the speaker views this issue from an opposite angle. According to the professor, without rhino horn, it will be difficult to survive in a short period of time, when they find food danger, no attack ability, so the rhino will be more threatened.
Secondly, educate consumers, after testing, most of the ingredients of rhino horn for protein, no nutritional elements, so that consumers reduce the demand for rhino horn. However, the speaker opposes the writer’s opinion by saying that the belief in the health benefits of rhino horn dates back to ancient times, when it was believed to have great healing powers.
Thirdly, get the government to legalize the sale of rhino horn so the government can sell it cheaply and make poachers unprofitable. By the contrast, in accordance with the speaker, the reading passage’ claim does not hold water because Legalizing the trade in rhino horn, which is already illegal, not only adds to the threat to rhinos, because cheap rhino horn leads to increased demand for rhino horn, and when demand increases, so does supply, leading to more rhinos being killed.
