Being replaced by free virtual resources -- books and magazines would be a story of the past, claimed by a prediction. It goes on to say that the printed forms would lose the market. However, in my opinion, I do not agree with the idea because nothing can be absolutely out of cost, also if it is free, it will be lacking in quality.
To begin with, if books and newspapers are to be complimentary there must be some hidden costs included. In other words, free reading opportunities will be provided only when people subscribe to some particular platform or media. Due to the very nature of the internet and online business strategies, it can be assumed that probably the news will be with zero charge, however, the membership or the subscription would possibly need some money or anything exchangeable. For instance, being completely free Facebook is rather asking for something else in return -- personal information -- which makes the company look cost-free superficially, although, on a deeper level, It is not true.
Yet another reason for me to believe my statement is that nothing free can make up for the quality. This is to say that running a free business would make the newspaper industry compromised in quality. The columnist writers, journalists would be profoundly affected If the products go free. And this will lead the staff to quit for better opportunities. As a result, the free platforms will suffer from quality deficiency, which will make the survival of these platforms questionable in the future. For example, newspapers, lacking in quality but free of cost, often disappear due to their compromised services as well as for the loss of their employees.
To sum up, free offers often come with hidden charges and declining quality. Therefore, I think, in the future, we will probably read everything online, though zero cost appears to be a rare possibility.
