Understanding the past is of little use to those in current positions of leadership.
Past repeat itself and it needs to be taken more seriosly as compared to how it is currently handled by most leaders today. I disagree that past is of little use for the people in current leadership positions, because of three major reasons as discussed below.
To begin, incidents that occur in the past repeat over a period of time. Numerous studies have been conducted for studying this phenomenon that a is based on that fact that a global slowdown enters the economy over a period of every 20 years and also the challenges that have been faced by previous governments have repeated over an interval of time. For instance, in 2008 a global slow down was predicted by the experts which governments intially ingnored as a mere speculation. This has led to loss of jobs and homelessness in all of the united states. Hence, if governememnt would have looked back into the past and took researcher's warning more seriosly then better steps would have been taken to ensure job security in the country dueing these diffucult times.
Further, it is important to learn from the mistakes in the past to prevent yourself from making the same mistakes again in the future. Same rule applies to people in the leadership positions as well. For example, there have been several pandemics in the past among which the most memorable one is teh Spanish flue from 1920s. This data from the past regarding how the pandemics occured and handeled globaly by the governments provides valuable insights to the leaders of today to take better measure and create policies that can improve the results this time as compared to the damage caused by such spread of diseases. This instance provides a solution to the problems that many governments faced intially when Covid-19 striked globaly and most of the leaders were not able to create a pkan in time. If they would have better looked into the past scenarios of Spanish fleu then these measures would have been implemented sooner and more effectively.
Lastly, it is obsered that leaders forget challenging times over a course of good economic and infrastructural growth. But this does not mean these problems can not occur again. Study conducted by harvard university suggests that people seem to forget the bad and painfull quickly in the woke of good times. For instance, if a a comapny is moving towards growth and making good financial gains, it is easy for its leaders to get carried away and forget their competitiors. Therefore, it is important for them to look back into the past and make startegies of how they can continuosly grow overcomming the challenges similar to the ones faced intially.
Some may argue that leaders today should look towards creating a better present and future regardless of what happended in the past. But is this not that exactly why they should look what went wrong in the past to prevent that from happening in the future and create a safer environment today. Hence, people specially leaders should keep a contast eye on the past as well as future and ignoring one can be damaging.
