The picture given illustrates a rainwater harvesting method used in Australian town making them safe to drink and distribute to the same houses where they are being collected from.
Generally, this technology can be divided into four main parts which can explain the total process. It starts from collecting through drains and ends up supplying drinking water through a separate pipeline.
During the rain, water is being collected on the roof top, passed through drain pipes of each house and are ultimately met at a common drain pipe. Then they are cleaned under a water filter and then passed to a storage tank where screening, sedimentation and other related processes are done. Stored water are then collected over a water treatment plant, where they are oxidized and necessary minerals are added to make it potable.
In the treatment plant, chemicals like bleaching powder, etc are added at a section which are part of chemical treatment. The treated water is now allowed through pipes and distributed to all the residents from where these rain waters are collected. The drain pipe of rainwater and delivery pipe of drinking water are well separated by different pipes making sure they never mix for safe consumption.
