Cam 13 test 3 task 2:
Some people say History is one the most important school subjects. Other people think that, in today’s world, subjects like Science and Technology are more important than History.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
People are facing the dilemma of whether History, or Science and Technology should be the most crucial subject in this day and age. In my view, as the world is modernizing and technology is advancing, I would argue that Science and Technology are more beneficial than History.
There are reasons why History could be claimed to be the most important subject. Because studying History is not just merely about memorising a list of times, places, and people, like what people usually misperceive, it is also about trying to figure out why an event, or a trend occurred, and how it unfolded. Moreover, the knowledge that students learn in school is only the base, it needs to be solid, so that in the future, in any case, students would not embarrass themselves. For instance, if a person goes to an international conference, and being asked about their nation’s history, but they do not know the answer, then no matter how intelligent this person is, they would not be acknowledged.
However, with the advent of technological and scientific achievements, I believe that Science and Technology are more important and practical. Because these subjects help pupils develop a better understandings of how a machine is created, and how it works. This means that they can apply it to reality, and latter on, they will get more opportunities to choose a variety of occupations. As an example, most of jobs nowadays require working with the computer, so if two candidates having equal skills, the only difference is that one with the knowledge of History, and the other one is Science and Technology. Then the latter one is definitely going to be hired.
In conclusion, while there are some reasons to believe that History is the most necessary subject in school, my own view is that Science and Technology are undoubtedly more important.
