The pie charts compare the ratio of sodium, saturated fat, and added sugar in four daily meals of an American. These three food nutrients can be harmful if consumed in excess.
Overall, most of the sodium, saturated fat are taken at dinner, while snacks account for the largest proportion of total added sugar intake.
Sodium intake is highest at dinner, while lunch is second-highest, making up 43% and 29% of total sodium consumption, respectively. This type of nutrient is present in equal amounts at breakfast and at snack, both at 14%. It is also important to note that dinner and lunch also take up the majority and second majority of total saturated fat intake, at 37% and 26%, respectively.
In terms of the remaining nutrient, snacks account for 43% of total added sugar consumption, nearly double the figure for dinner, which accounts for 23%. The added sugar at lunch is lower, at 19% while breakfast makes up the lowest percentage of total added sugar intake, at 16%.
