Making mistakes happens in every corner of our daily life, and skills about how to respond to mistakes are also essential ingredients for us. A controversial question, which method is the best way to respond to mistakes that occur in the class or a meeting has drawn people's attention. When it comes to my perspective, compared to saying nothing or waiting until the meeting or class is over then to correct, I firmly believe that interrupting and correcting the mistake right away is the most suitable one. In the following essay, I will elaborate on what my opinion is based on.
First, a small mistake can further lead to a more serious problem if it not be corrected. Especially in a meeting or a class, cause the content is closely related, a single mistake can cause the logic to derail from what it should be. In addition, once the mistake becomes bigger and bigger, it will take much more time for everyone to correct it. For instance, last semester, the math professor left every student a question to solve after class, which was obviously incorrect and nobody mentioned in the class. During that weekend, almost all students were exhausted in coping with this 'the most difficult problem', until the professor sent the email to inform us about the flaw of the question. Had it been someone who figured out the problem of this question, we would not waste much time on this useless homework.
Second, sometimes the interruption can help everyone to be concentrated. In recent years, many educational researches show that occasional interruption in class contributes to the development of teaching quality. This rule is also fit for the work environment. Due to people in the class or meeting tending to follow what the teacher or leader's saying, their ability to judge the correctness of the content that is conveyed is transitorily reduced. However, a surprising interruption can rouse this ability and help them review whether the content is logically correct. This kind of opinion is widely accepted in universities and famous companies by setting regular discussion during classes or meetings.
A voice arises that interrupts others' speech seems impolite, while this saying should be scrutinized meticulously. In comparison to leading the content that goes wrong, correcting mistakes is the most respectful way for both classes and meetings. Generally speaking, the goal of all participants in a meeting or class is the same, which is to gain the correct information to guide their next steps. Helping the content to be correct, not only the leader or teacher won't blame, but also other participants will appreciate this kind of behavior, for it is a wise choice for everyone's benefit.
In conclusion, drawing upon the reasons I have mentioned above, interrupting and correct the mistake immediately is the best choice during this occasions.
