The argument is based on the Age of the internet. The writer on the reading passage is arguing about how internet has affected the life of human for the worst. While the lecturer in listening passage is opposing the reading passage with the following arguments:
In the reading passage, the writer says that the use of internet is making people dumber. They are more inclined to discover than invent. The opinions of people have been forged with the information available on the internet. But, the lecturer has denied the claim, saying that the internet is not making people dumber. It is making people smarter, giving them the opportunity to learn and explore more. Further, he supports his argument with a report of a survey conducted on a region accessing internet that IQ of the people has increased by 1.8 points. the study clearly shows that internet is not making people dumb. The lecturer further adds that with internet students do not need to fully rely on what is being taught in the class. People are learning and exploring different languages, cultures even when they have not visited the place.
Furthermore, the lecturer has argued the claim made by reading passage about how the internet is affecting the attention span of the people. Internet pages with hyperlinks and advertisement is reducing the concentration period of the people. The lecturer argues on this claim, saying people are now being able to concentarte more on things they are truely interested in. Internet has helped people to be more accustomed with mutlitasking.
With the argument, it is clear that the lecturer and the writer are finding it difficult to come on the common ground.
