If your friends want to change their lifestyle to achieve a positive lifestyle, which of the following suggestions would you recommend? 1. Be more disciplined and have a stronger will; 2. Work with people who share the same goals; 3. Consult a professional expert (a doctor, a nutritionist, or psychologist)
Some people believe that one’s strong will is sufficient enough to change one’s attitude toward life. The others cite the importance of consulting experts to get valuable help. However, in my opinion, I claim that working together with other people in a similar status can be the most effective and beneficial way of changing oneself. I will support my viewpoint with the following two reasons.
First of all, one can be continuously motivated with help of many others. Indeed, trying alone to tackle difficulties can be hard because even if one sets a strong will, it can be curbed in many circumstances. Furthermore, restoring the will alone is as hard as setting the will in the first place. However, if other people are surrounding one and they have the same objective, then they can encourage one another more easily. For example, there are many different sorts of addiction rehabilitation centers or clubs. Those who are addicted to some substances, whether it is alcohol or drugs, form a group together to eradicate addiction and change towards a healthy life. Sharing one’s thoughts and provoking each other makes a synergy and this is proven to be effective and successful in many cases.
Second of all, one can implement penalties as well as compliments in working in groups. When one works solely or only receives one-way guides from experts, it is hard for them to be corrected or punished when they misbehave and digress from achieving the goal. However, one can be controlled by regulations set by other people when working together. For example, I participated in many group studies where we studied for the same exam. On these occasions, we set specific goals and if one could not make it, he or she had to be penalized by paying a little amount of money or being excluded from the group. Not to be criticized for not putting required effort, each person had to work harder. Thus, working with others who share the same goals can benefit one by enforcing them to follow their responsibility.
To conclude, choosing guides and methods on how to change one’s life and achieve their goal can be varied from person to person. Some might think solo’s strong will is most required, while others think advice from the experts is the best. Nevertheless, I still contend that cooperating together with those who want to accomplish the same goals can be the most effective and powerful way.
