My speaking text
The lecturer explains two basic principles of effective interior design which are used in the US. The first one is unity in which we can match different elements together. For example, we can match the color among the walls, the rug and the sofa in a room by using diverse green colors. This makes the room comfortable but too much unity makes it boring. So we use the second principle, contrast. We can make a break in unity by using contrast in a careful and intentional way. For example, we may use red cushions on green sofa. This will make green much greener next to the red. However, we should notice that too much contrast will make the room look too busy. Therefore, we need a delicate balance between unity and contrast.
