The professor refutes all the theories which are mentioned in the passage and gives some reasons against theories.
First, the theory of using the carved stone balls as weapons for hunting for frightening is rejected by the professor. She states that there are not any signs of being cracked or broken on these balls in comparison to other ancient weapons like arrows and etc., which means that they were well preserved. As a result, they did not use them as weapons.
Second, according to the passage they could be used as a primitive system for weights and measures while the professor opposed this theory too. She indicates that although their size are so nearly uniform, their weights are not. In other words, these stone balls are made of different type of stones with different density results in different mass.
Finally, the professor refutes the third theory in the passage which states that carved stone balls could be used as a symbol or social marker. She mentions that if they were used for this purpose they should be found in tombs or graves because at that time when they wanted to bury someone they buried some symbols to show their social status while no carved stone balls found with ancient buried bodies.
